Kaitlyn Geesaman

Kaitlyn “Kat” Geesaman grew up in the country setting of Pennsylvania, spending most of her childhood in the outdoors. During the winter months, her family would travel to the west coast of Florida, thus birthing her appreciation for sea life and sunshine. Her curiosity for the diversity of habitats led to a passion for travel and adventure. As a young adult, she spent time in Australia and various locations of the Caribbean learning about the culture, community and wildlife.

Her faith and love of humanity led to involvement in organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and many small nonprofits working on developing sustainable solutions for communities within the US and Haiti.

Simultaneously, Kaitlyn explored ways to fulfill her desire to work with animals. She spent time in the field of veterinary medicine, working with various animal hospitals and the National Smithsonian Zoological Park in DC.

During these experiences, Kaitlyn wanted to share with those around her, the beauty of all that she had seen. Her travels inspired her artwork from childhood into her professional career as a full-time artist. Today, she lives in St Petersburg, Florida with her husband, cat and studio-name-inspired German Shepherd, “Ransom”. Her sense of adventure continues with annual backpacking expeditions around the country and mission trips to Haiti. She continues participating in community outreach as a youth group leader for a local church and strives to keep St Pete beautiful by engaging in local beach clean-ups.

Emblematic to her desire to upcycle, Kaitlyn chooses to create her canvases from reclaimed wood sources. Each original canvas is uniquely designed from old fence and deck boards. This concept was developed as a child, when an abundance of old fence boards could be found around the farm. She enjoys combining the natural, distressed appearance of the wood with the vibrant colors of the wildlife that she portrays in her pieces.
